He lost his nose, lips and most of the movement in his mouth. He was horribly disfigured, and he spent most of the next decade and a half in hiding, venturing out only occasionally at night in a cap and a surgical mask.Today, after receiving the most comprehensive face transplant to date, he says he’s able to walk past people without a second look. I like my planes like I like my coffee. COVERED IN BEEEEEEEEEES!

“A Delta flight departing Pittsburgh International Airport for NYC on Wednesday was delayed when thousands of bees swarmed the plane’s body. The buzzing critters bumrushed the craft’s wing just as the plane’s crew was preparing to fuel it. Since the bees are a protected species and it’s a crime to kill them, master beekeeper Stephen Repasky of Meadow Sweet Apiaries was called to the scene and was able to remove them.

So what caused the massive bee swarm? According to Repasky, these swarms typically form when a queen bee leaves half of her population to find another home with the other half. Swarms like this can contain up to 30,000 bees. MyFoxNY reports that Mr. Repasky indicated it’s likely that there’s a wild honeybee colony somewhere in the airport.”  (via inhabitat)

Felix Baumgartner of Austria steps out from the capsule during the second manned test flight for Red Bull Stratos over Roswell, New Mexico. Red Bull Stratos is a mission to the edge of space to an altitude of 37,000 metres to break several records including the speed of sound in free fall.

Felix Baumgartner lands in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico after making his second stratospheric leap, this time from more than 18 miles (29 kilometres) above the Earth - nearly three times as high as cruising jetliners.”

High school teacher Gregory Euclide creates artwork on his whiteboard during his 25 minute lunch break.

“In our culture, there is a strong emphasis on reproduction and the original seems less important.  My students were shocked when I would erase the original, because they saw it firsthand, and they were disturbed that it was destroyed.  People who do not see the original have no problem only looking at it on a screen or as a print, but once you see the original it is hard to let it go or believe that it could be destroyed.”

In the last known largely unexcavated Maya megacity, archaeologists have uncovered the only known mural adorning an ancient Maya house, a new study says—and it’s not just any mural.

In addition to a still vibrant scene of a king and his retinue, the walls are rife with calculations that helped ancient scribes track vast amounts of time. Contrary to the idea the Maya predicted the end of the world in 2012, the markings suggests dates thousands of years beyond that.

Hundreds of large spirals have been discovered on Mars, and scientists think the coiled features are evidence of a type of lava flow never before seen on the red planet.
If so, the spirals would suggest that volcanoes—not ice floes, as other experts believe—shaped an unusual area near the red planet’s equator.

Aliens.  Definitely aliens.
